Briefly…
WE DID IT! We were married on August 5th, 2006.
SHE (The Shadow Lady) is a CPA, working for Symetra Financial, in a Finance Accounting Department. (More about her)
HE (The Mountain Man) is a programmer working for Symetra Financial, in Individual Systems, and Financial Management Systems Department (more about him)
Thanks to everyone who helped, and for those who came to help us celebrate!
This is us, during a trip to visit HIS family…
How We Met…
We met at work, near the middle of January of 2005, during our company’s transition to a general ledger. The Mountain Man had recently reassigned to Finance Management Systems, to help implement Essbase, and build a Treasury Management System. FMS, as it was known, is the unit that does the IT support for the Finance department.
The Mountain Man overheard the folks on his team talking about having problems getting a database to work. He thought he knew what the problem was, so when a phone-based meeting with the vendors was planned, he asked to join in, even though he was already swamped with more work than he could do in a normal day.
The Mountain Man got the confirmation he wanted from the vendor and quickly had the database working. The Shadow Lady was at that meeting, which is where The Mountain Man met her. She actually was at an earlier meeting where The Mountain Man was introduced to the Finance folks, but The Mountain Man didn’t really notice anyone in particular at that meeting – they were just a sea of Business Folks. He wore a Boston Red Sox hat that day, and apparently was less than impressive with his introductions, which included the tidbit that he was a big baseball fan. Anyway, later that day, well after ‘normal’ quitting time, The Mountain Man got confused as to who was on what team (he was quickly added to the general ledger team) and included The Shadow Lady in an email to the Essbase team that somehow had something to do with ANOTHER problem that The Shadow Lady was having.
That prompted the famous “You’re still here?” email from The Shadow Lady to The Mountain Man, and the train to “TeamJ” started rolling.
The wedding, oddly enough, is during another transition to a different general ledger… Busy times seem to suit us pretty well! After the engagement was announced, The Mountain Man was moved to Individual Systems to work on Inforce Illustrations Software.
hen We Got Engaged…
We got engaged in a park on Mercer Island on the 22nd of January, 2006. It was where we went for a walk shortly after we first met, and were getting to know each other.
This picture was taken quite close to where we got engaged… A larger version is our “Shadow” pictures area.
This is written in the Hebrew Talmud, the book where all of the sayings and preaching of Rabbis are conserved over time.

When and where was it?
We were married on Saturday, August 5th, 2006, at 2:00 PM at the Mercer Island Covenant Church. The reception followed in the fellowship hall at the church.
SEAFAIR was that weekend… the DOT closed the bridge around 12:45, and re-opened it some time after 2:30. Everyone had to arrive early. There were parks on the island (here is a map of the island), but most everyone just stood outside the church and watched the show from there, then ran in about 10 minutes before the ceremony started.
They do their turns right over the island, and its the best viewing location for the fast and agile F-18’s and their nearly fearless pilots… so close you can almost touch them!
Yeah, it was tough to arrange, but we managed. 🙂
