RAIN. If you needed a word to describe the typical weather here in the Northwest, it would be ‘rain.’
Every so often, though, it snows… especially since we moved to into the foothills of the Cascades. One of the things that appealed to me was that we would be getting snow on a regular basis in the winter. Lucky (?) for me, the first two years we moved here were the heaviest snowfall seasons the local area had seen in 10-15 years, according to the folks who’d lived nearby for a while. I decided to write down certain stats, to do a year over year comparison. This is just casual observations made during the season… nothing scientific or anything, but I think it will end up being pretty interesting!
Here’s the summary of the ‘records’… the ‘most’ or ‘earliest’ or’longest’ when it comes to the snow where we live.
| Most Snow | Least Snow | Biggest Snow Event | Earliest snow | Most Snow Events | Latest Snow | Longest Span |
| 77″ (08-09) | 2.5″ (09-10) | 40″ (18-19) | Oct 8 (19-20), | 24 (08-09) | April 21 (07-08) | 177 (19-20) |
The Records:
Most Snow In a year: 77″, in 2008-2009
Earliest Snow:
Latest Snow:
Biggest Snow Event:
Most Snow Events:
This is my ‘unscientific’ attempt at keeping a summary of what happened over the years. Most of the individual snow events are listed in the ‘Currently’ section of my site… eventually, it’ll get more and more interesting as time goes on.

A “White Christmas” means snow on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
A “Snow Event” means .it stuck on the grass or porch, and I have a picture of it.
