Earthquake!

At 2:51 this morning we had an earthquake that that measured magnitude 4.6 and woke me up.  I heard it before I felt it.  My first thought was that something was rolling down the slope up the ridge and that it had hit the house.  Midway through the 5-10 seconds or so, I figured it was an earthquake.

It’s been awhile since I felt one so it was pretty cool.  A second quake hit at 2:53, a magnitude 3.5 quake.  An exciting way to start the day!

I quickly checked the shake maps to see where it was. It was in the Three Lakes area, which of this is a fair distance north of here..

I filled out an “I felt it” report.  I was hoping to be first, but I ended up being 7th.

Later, I heard on the radeio that a series of aftershocks have happened since the initial quake, and they were following the general fault zone that is connected to Seattle, so I checked it out on the map…  the grouping is interesting, but the aftershoks have been relatively small.

Stuff like this is fascinating, though…

The local news was pointing out that a dam is situated near the quake area… There apparently was no damage.

The quake was felt as far north as Vancouver, BC, over to Wenatchee, and south of Olympia, a pretty sizable region.

” There was a cluster of about eight aftershocks following the two shake ups. There have been no major injuries or damages reported. “

The “Shake maps”, generated by the “I felt it” reports, showed a wide distribution:

At about 8:30, I rechecked the Seismogram… it was pretty interesting.
